Capito, Manchin Announce $98K for West Virginia Farm to School Program

U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $98,307 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition to implement the Nurturing Farm to School program in three school districts in Doddridge, Kanahwa and Randolph counties.

"I'm glad to see USDA utilizing our teachers, nonprofits, FFA, local farms, and community leaders to teach our children about agriculture, while creating more opportunities for students in Doddridge, Kanawha, and Randolph counties to learn about nutrition and entrepreneurship. The West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition does a fantastic job in cultivating the local food and agriculture system in West Virginia, and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this investment within our state," Senator Capito said.

"Farm to School programs provide healthy, locally grown food for schools while also teaching students how to live healthy lives. I am thrilled USDA is investing in Farm to School programs in three West Virginia counties," Senator Manchin said. "Not only will this program provide fresh, healthy food to students, but it will also support local farmers in the Mountain State. I will continue to advocate for funding to support our educational programs and West Virginia's agriculture industry."
